Saturday, June 23, 2012 - Rental Rates Down 2% From Last Year

According to CMHC's rental market statistics for Spring 2012, Edmonton's vacancy rate for rental apartment structures over 3 units is down from 4.7% in April 2011 to 2.7% in April 2012.  The average monthly rent for a bachelors suite went down from $731 to $725 from April 2011 to April 2012.  A one bedroom increased from $852 to $864 per month.  Two bedroom units went up from $1,029 to $1,306 and three bedroom units decreased from $1,224 to $1,208. Saturday, June 23, 2012 - Alberta Rates of Inflation Lowest in Canada

Alberta and the Calgary region had the lowest rates of inflation in the country in May, according to Statistics Canada. Statistics Canada reported Friday that in the 12 months to May, consumer prices rose at a slower rate in all provinces compared with April. Newfoundland and Labrador (+2.5%) continued to post the largest increase, while Alberta (+0.4%) continued to record the lowest. Nationally, prices rose by 1.2 per cent.
